The university\u2019s Horticultural Research Station is proud to have won yet another international award for its rose varieties: third prize for the \u2018Pasiune \u00een Mov\u2019 variety, awarded at the 23rd edition of Rose Day in Slovenia.<\/p>\n
In June, the Vol\u010dji Potok Arboretum, together with the Slovenian Rose Society, organised the event dedicated to rose beauty, fragrance and diversity.<\/p>\n
Under the topic \u201cA rose is more than just a flower. It is an experience!\u201d, visitors were invited to discover roses through scent, taste, touch, stories and encounters in a spectacular setting, amongst the blooming roses.<\/p>\n
During the event, the most fragrant rose varieties were selected, and the \u2018Pasiune \u00een Mov\u2019 variety \u2013 created at the Palocsay Research Station, now the Horticultural Research Station of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) Cluj-Napoca, by the late \u0218tefan Wagner and Gabriela Roman \u2013 came third.<\/p>\n
\u2018Pasiune \u00een Mov\u2019 impresses not only with the beauty and fragrance of its flowers. Its petals can also be used in cooking, being suitable for making rose jam and rose syrup. This thus gives the variety importance in terms of its utilisation in horticultural produce.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a significant recognition of Romanian research and plant breeding and, at the same time, a confirmation of the value of the varieties created in Romania. We, at the National Institute for Horticultural Research and Development ( ), have a duty to protect, conserve and promote Romania\u2019s horticultural heritage! The varieties created by Romanian breeders deserve to be included not only in collections within the country, but also in international collections, where they can be appreciated and recognised by as wide an audience as possible. One such example is the Vol\u010dji Potok Arboretum in Slovenia, which already houses around 20 Romanian rose varieties,\u201d said Dr Gabriela Roman, co-creator of the \u2018Pasiune \u00een Mov\u2019 variety and curator of our resort\u2019s collection of over 320 varieties.<\/p>\n
