Sculpture camp at USAMV Cluj-Napoca, through a partnership with UAD: eight works in Viștea stone, created by students, inspired from the universe of life sciences

The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) Cluj-Napoca partnered with the University of Art and Design (UAD) Cluj-Napoca, through the Department of Sculpture, offer a first event of its kind: the organization of a sculpture camp on the campus of USAMV Cluj-Napoca, in which UAD students created eight works in Viștea stone, inspired by the universe of life sciences.

For two weeks, students from years II-III in Sculpture (UAD) worked together with their coordinating professors – Prof. Florin Marin, Ph.D – director of the Sculpture Department and assistant professor Radu Handru, Ph.D in the camp organized outdoors, near the Research Centre for Biodiversity, on the campus of USAMV Cluj-Napoca.
UAD students were free to choose the names of the sculptures, which will be exhibited on the campus of USAMV Cluj-Napoca, and they are: “Fruit” – student director Alexandar Knezevic, “Seed” – Alexandra Mîță (2nd year); “Micro Universe” – Atena Coșovean, “Fossil” – Eduard Sergiu Filep, “Crystals” – Georgiana Patricia Jucan, “Germination” – Alexandru Lungu and Eric Andrei Oancea, “Bob” – Valerian Mihail Pocotilă and “Stone Leaves” – Ana Selena Prodan (3rd year).
The sculptures of the students in the camp organized on the campus of USAMV Cluj-Napoca were created from blocks of natural stone made of Viștea limestone, whose white color with yellowish iridescence gives a special shine to the works. The stone blocks were donated by Gyorgy Levente from Viștea, that USAMV Cluj-Napoca and UAD Cluj-Napoca are grateful to, for his project contribution.
The works will soon be available for all sculpture lovers to admire, and will be placed in front of representative buildings on the USAMV Cluj-Napoca campus. Until then, we invite you to the opening, on 2 November 2023, at 11.00 am, in the area that hosted the workshops, near the Biodiversity Research Centre.
The event will be attended by the authors of the sculptures, students and professors from USAMV Cluj-Napoca and UAD Cluj-Napoca, together with the rectors of the two academic institutions.
