The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca is the successor of the prestigious Higher School of Agriculture of Cluj, founded 153 years ago, in October 1869, under the name of Institute of Agronomic Studies, Cluj-Manastur. In 1906, the Institute reached the Academy level, becoming the Academy of Agriculture of Cluj.
The university provides the academic instruction of its highly qualified specialists in the main fields of agricultural and forestry sciences, engineering, veterinary medicine and natural sciences by promoting bachelor, masters, PhD and postgraduation studies based on the development of knowledge, research and innovation.
The university supports the permanent improvement of the educational process by continuously adapting its specialization subjects, by reviewing the curricula and the study programmes according to the national and international development standards and perspectives regarding the targeted fields.
By master’s, PhD, postgraduate studies, specialization by means of continuing professional training of the specialists and farmers’ qualification, by improving the skills of the pre-university teaching staff and of the main academic teaching staff, the university defines itself as an active member of the lifelong formation and of the professional reorientation of the human resources.
By its recruiting, promoting and improvement policies of its teaching and research staff, the university provides the human resources required to the academic and postgraduate professional formation, as well as patterns regarding the professional and civic behavior.
The members of its academic community make the university a nation and inter-nationwide active element in the implementation process of the research, technological transfer and employment educational programmes and policies.
USAMV Cluj-Napoca will develop in the context of the expansion of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The new frame represents a globalized market where the perspectives and the programs are constantly reshaping, where the geographical boundaries blur and the informational and communication techniques allow the servicing of students beyond conventional borders.
Within the newly created space, the new mission regarding the advanced research and education of the university, anticipated and inscribed in the university Charter, has to be supported in order for the institution to adapt to the new challenges of the society and of the academic world, by an integrated management system of the quality of the educational act but also of the management services of the institution, by means of communication and transparent public relations towards the internal and external community, as well as by a practical approach of the human resources management.
The academic year lasts from October until June, being divided into two semesters. Specific activities include the educational module, the examination periods, the re-examination periods, the practice periods and the holidays established according to the religious dates.
This type of education takes place during three years of study, according to the Bologna type curriculum, except the specialization of Veterinary Medicine with a study duration of six years.
The master studies offer the possibility to refine one’s knowledge in a certain field and to train the students so that they may access the PhD programs.
The academic doctoral studies, in short, PhD, represent the third study cycle of academic studies organized in our university and allow the awarding of the PhD title and the granting of an 8 level qualification in accordance with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and with the National Qualification Framework(CNC).
The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca (USAMV CN) is a university committed to the advanced research and education mission, the development of the PhD studies representing an important component of this strategy.
The PhD studies taking place within USAMV CN are focused on the learning through research process, the purpose of which being the development of efficient human resource in the field of research-development and innovation; the PhD represents a requirement for the professional career in the field of higher education and research.
The USAMV CN is accredited as an Academic Doctoral Studies Organizing Institution (IOSUD) with a Doctoral School, thus being entitled to organize and develop academic doctoral courses. The PhD fields at USAMV CN are as follows: Agronomy, Horticulture, Animal Science, Biotechnologies and Veterinary Medicine. The PhD studies are full time courses only. Regarding this form of education, there is an admission contest organized on an annual basis, according to the legislation in force. The admission contest concerns both the budget places, as well as those for which the PhD student has to pay a tuition fee, or with other financing sources. .
IOSUD is managed by the Council for Academic Doctoral Studies (CSUD).
The position of the CSUD director is assimilated to the Vice rector position.
