The Post-Industrial Smart Regenerative Ecosystem (SPIRE) project, with USAMV Cluj-Napoca among its partners, won the WORLD SMART CITY AWARDS, in the Innovation category

The Post-Industrial Smart Regenerative Ecosystem (SPIRE) project, including our university among the partners and funded by the Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) European Commission, won the WORLD SMART CITY AWARDS in 2023 in the Innovation category at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona.

SPIRE was coordinated by Baia Mare City Hall and the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca, through the Faculty of Agriculture, was a partner together with Urbasofia, Indeco Soft, ARIES Transilvania, Baia Mare Metropolitan Area and the Innovative Biomass Green Energy Cluster.
The project aimed at the sustainable use of polluted land, bringing it back into use through phytoremediation, a nature-based solution.
The team from the Faculty of Agriculture of our university consisted of ten specialists and was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Roxana Vidican – Dean. Congratulations to the colleagues involved in the SPIRE Project and to all the partners, who contributed to this award!
The annual World Smart City Awards is a prestigious international competition that recognizes projects, ideas and strategies that aim to make cities around the world more sustainable and economically viable. At Smart City Expo 2023 in Barcelona, 411 projects from 63 countries were submitted.
The SPIRE project has also been nominated for the German SDG/UNIDO Innovation Award 2023 at the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum, which will take place on 25 November 2023.
