“The best grazing farmer!”, a contest with prizes launched by USAMV Cluj-Napoca, through the Grazing4Agroecology Project

The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) Cluj-Napoca, through the Grazing4Agroecology Project (https://grazing4agroecology.eu) and in partnership with UBM Feed Romania, the largest independent feed factory in the country located in the commune of Sânpaul (Mureș county), is organising a competition for farmers who integrate grazing into animal husbandry (cows, sheep, goats, horses, etc.).

More specifically, this unique competition is aimed at farmers who demonstrate one or more achievements in:

Improving animal health through grazing;

Reducing inputs needed for grazing-based animal feed;

Reducing pollution;

Increasing on-farm diversity;

Biodiversity conservation through grazing.

COMPETITION DESCRIPTION:

– The competition is aimed at farmers who make the highest possible use of grazed grass for animal feed;

– Farmers are asked to send a short video (max. 5 min.) or pictures describing the main benefits of using grazing – reduced costs; reduced pollution; improved animal welfare, etc.

AWARDS:

Prize 1: A trip to Ireland (air travel and accommodation) to attend the G4AE project meeting in March 2025. The trip will also include field visits/farms/demonstration activities as well as the opportunity to interact with competition- winning farmers from other Member States. The award ceremony will include a certificate (provided by Teagasc – Ireland’s leading consultancy provider) for each farmer as well as the opportunity to promote the farm to the G4AE network.

Winners of prizes 2-3 will receive a prize of UBM Feed for the youth on the farm (prize 2 – feed worth 3,000 lei; prize 3 – feed worth 1,000 lei).
