Traditional Products Festival at USAMV Cluj-Napoca. Among the products presented by the students – Szekler goulash, lettuce broth, smoked trout in Bucovina fir bark or sweet corn

We invite you, through the Faculty of Agriculture, to the 17th edition of the Traditional Products Festival, organised by the 4th year students of Environmental Engineering, for the lecture of Product Control and Certification, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Avram Fițiu.

The event will take place on 27 May 2024, from 10.00 – 18.00, at the Biodiversity Research Centre, USAMV Cluj-Napoca campus.

The students will present recipes of traditional products from their home counties, including recipe specifications, which will be judged by teachers, together with specialists in gastronomy and popular traditions.

“Our festival is already a tradition, which brings back to the forefront the local recipes of Romanian cuisine, recipes that are collected by the students themselves. They thus acquire several skills: certification and control of organic farms and households; elaboration of specifications for traditional agricultural/food products; elaboration of certification procedures for mountain products; local and ethical certification of products; elaboration of specifications for PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), PGI (Geographical Indication of Protection) and TSG (Guaranteed Speciality) products, by carrying out a practical activity in the family’s locality of origin. The objective of this pedagogical activity is to bring traditional gastronomy out of oblivion, but also to train a graduate of USAMV Cluj-Napoca as a specialist in the design of agricultural marketing approaches”, explained the coordinator of the event, Prof. Dr. Avram Fițiu (Faculty of Agriculture).

The event will be opened at 10.00 am by the management of USAMV Cluj-Napoca, after which the jury members will taste and evaluate the products presented by the students, and then the specifications of the traditional recipes will be presented. The tasting by visitors of the dishes presented by the students will take place after 12.00, when the judging will complete their activity.
