Teams of students and high school students honoured at FSTA’s World Food Day video competition

A unique video competition has been organised by the Faculty of Food Science and Technology over the last few weeks, inviting university and high school students to submit their videos on the topic of universal access to safe food and the promotion of this essential right. The award ceremony for the winners took place today, 15 November 2024, in the Aula Magna “Mihai Șerban” and to the enjoyment of more than 100 participants in the ceremony.

The project launched by FSTA has been a real success, with 47 talented teams of students from our faculty and twelfth graders from several colleges registered, and we congratulate them for their involvement.

The jury, composed of renowned specialists – Teodora Tompea, TV presenter / reporter, Laura Gavrilaș – president of the Dieteticians Association of Romania, Prof. dr. Dan Cristian Vodnar – professor of Molecular Gastronomy (FSTA), Radu Constantin – actor / director / MK strategist and the likeable Tanti Lenuța from the films shot with Mircea Bravo, had a difficult task in selecting the winners, taking into account not only the creativity and originality of the materials, but also the impact of the message conveyed. “Food is one of the basic human physiological needs, alongside shelter and clothing. It is also more than a mere necessity – it is a fundamental, internationally recognised human right, but it is also a responsibility that each of us has to take to build a fairer world. With this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to support the fundamental right to food. We hope that together we can contribute to building a more secure future in which every person has equal access to quality food”, is the message from our faculty organisers.

World Food Day, celebrated annually on 16 October, had a key theme this year: “The Right to Food for a Better Life and a More Secure Future”. This theme challenges us to reflect on the importance of universal access to safe and nutritious food and the long-term benefits this right brings to our communities.

Congratulations to the winners and all the participants! You have demonstrated talent, passion and a deep understanding of the subject matter. Thanks also to the jury members for their involvement, to the organisers for their hard work, and to the main sponsor, BT Leasing, for their generous support!

The 10th anniversary of the World Soil Day – #WorldSoilDay is marked on 5 December at our university, with events organised by the Faculty of Agriculture, highlighting the importance of healthy soil and advocating for sustainable management of soil resources.

The first event on Thursday, 5 December 2024, is dedicated to the students of this faculty, to whom an educational and scientific presentation competition is dedicated in the framework of the Round Table “Soil Care: Measurement, Monitoring, Management”. The best presentations will be awarded as follows: first prize – 1.000 lei, second prize – 800 lei and third prize – 500 lei.

The event will take place in Amphitheatre A4 (Rectorate building, ground floor), starting at 10.00.

In the year 2024, the theme of World Soil Day emphasises the importance of sustainable soil monitoring and management to ensure stable ecosystems and sustain human well-being. In this sense, the second event organised by the Faculty of Agriculture on 5 December proposes debates and the promotion of good practices in education for sustainability and economic competitiveness, joint involvement in sustainable management of soil resources, together with specialists and partners from the economic environment.

Entitled “Education for sustainability and economic competitiveness”, the event hosted by the Biodiversity Research Centre will start at 12.00, with the participation of guests and partners from the business environment, along with students and teachers.

The meeting is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Teodor Rusu, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, together with the organising team of students and teachers. Congratulations to all participants, good luck and thanks to the sponsors involved in the two events: Corteva Agriscience – main sponsor of the Workshop “Education for Sustainability and Economic Competitiveness” and of the Faculty’s promotional activities, and DLG InterMarketing – sponsor of the prizes of the student contest “Soil Care: Measurement, Monitoring, Management”.
