Partnership UTCN – USAMV Cluj-Napoca – Greened terraces on the roof of the HUB UTCN building, through a multidisciplinary project competition of Architecture, Construction and Landscape Design students

Through a multidisciplinary partnership between our university and the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, 10 teams of Architecture, Civil Constructions and Landscape Design students will compete with their creative projects to design three terraces on the roof of the HUB UTCN building, so that they become inviting and welcoming green spaces.

Landscape Design students from the Faculty of Horticulture and Business in Rural Development, met their teammates from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and the Faculty of Construction, and the symbolic start of the competition was given in the presence of Prof. dr. Eng. Vasile Țopa – Rector UTCN and Prof. dr. Cornel Cătoi – Rector USAMV Cluj-Napoca.

On behalf of our university Assoc. prof. dr. Buta Erszebet Erszebet Buta – Vice-rector Coordination of SDE and Relations with the socio-economic environment also participated, alongside Prof. dr. Mugurel Jitea – Dean FHADR and Lecturer Dr. Valentin Dan. UTCN was also represented by Prof. dr. eng. Manea Daniela Lucia – Dean of the Faculty of Constructions and Assoc. prof. dr. arch. Dragoș Șerban Ion Tîgănaș – Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism.

The HUB UTCN building is one of the newest additions to the heritage repertoire of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. This building is close to the historical center, between two blue-green corridors of the city, with the old Fashion House, rehabilitated in the spirit of the alma mater’s values, aims to (re)become an iconic urban presence.

The first steps in this direction have been made – the building is frequently used by UTCN students and partners, as well as their guests – the place itself elegantly aligning with the festive atmosphere of the conferences, as well as with the scholarly research character, the HUB building is also home to some high performance scientific research offices.

The competition, launched on January 14, 2024, is about further harmonizing the building with the city, through the most direct spatial links between the building and its exterior neighborhoods – the terraces.

The competition will run until February 19, when the projects will be evaluated and the results will be announced on February 21. Congratulations and good luck to all participants!
