Message of the Cluj University Union ahead of the presidential elections on Sunday, May 18: The future starts with a simple but essential gesture: vote!

Going to the polls is not just about the right to your own political choice, it is about taking on a responsibility, a commitment to well-being and democracy, to a secure and sustainable future.

The Union of Cluj Universities (UUC) reaffirms its commitment to the academic communities it represents, to support the Euro-Atlantic strategic direction assumed by:

• strong academic partnerships;
• membership of prestigious international alliances and networks;
• attracting large numbers of international students and supporting student and academic mobility;
• permanent dialog with European and transatlantic institutions.

Part of international university communities, UUC member universities are spaces for freedom of thought, exchange of ideas, cooperation and the building of a democratic society and, even more so, a better world through education and knowledge, and in the same spirit, they are environments where extremism, aggression and discrimination of any kind are not tolerated.

In this context, we urge the entire academic community of Cluj to exercise their right to vote and to assume the responsibility of a conscious, rational, informed choice, in the spirit of the values and principles promoted by our universities.
