Assistant Professor Georgiana Deak, the first European Diplomat in Veterinary Parasitology from USAMV Cluj-Napoca
The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) Cluj-Napoca announces an important achievement by a specialist from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine: Assistant Prof. Dr. Georgiana Deak has been awarded the title of Diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Parasitology (ECVP), a first for our university.
The European-recognised specialist diploma was obtained by Assistant Professor Georgiana Deak following internships at the University of Murcia (Spain), supplemented by training periods in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France, as well as research internships in Algeria and the Galápagos Islands. These international experiences have allowed her to develop a broad view of the diversity and complexity of parasite-host relationships in various ecosystems.
Her scientific work focuses in particular on parasites of domestic and wild carnivores and on clinical veterinary parasitology, fields in which she combines laboratory approaches with clinical observations in the field.
Currently, Assistant Professor Georgiana Deak, who is part of the Parasitology Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, has been coordinating a research project dedicated to zoonotic parasites transmitted by fleas since 2021, thus contributing to a better understanding of the risks they may pose to animal and human health.
Six other specialists who have previously obtained the title of Diplomat are also active at the faculty within USAMV Cluj-Napoca, as follows:
- Prof. Dr. Andrei Daniel Mihalca, Diplomat European College of Zoological Medicine (since 2014), currently also president of the college;
