Great news for horticulture in Transylvania: contract signed for the development of an organic apple orchard at the Horticultural Research Station, through the PNDR!
Our university has signed the financing contract under Measure DR15 – Investments in fruit farms, from the National Rural Development Plan, financed by the European Union through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, for the development of the Horticultural Research Station within the Faculty of Horticulture and Business in Rural Development!
The project, with an eligible value of 3,937,790 lei, will enable the conversion of 10 hectares of apple orchards into a super-intensive organic system and will provide modern precision machinery and equipment, essential for efficient and sustainable activity.
The new plantation, established on land with very good soil conditions for apple cultivation, will contribute to:
– reducing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration;
– the sustainable use of resources through irrigation, fertilisation and treatments managed with precision technologies;
– promoting innovation and digitalisation through investments in drones and monitoring software systems.
“This investment represents an important step towards modernising horticultural research, but also towards training future specialists in horticulture and rural development. We are proud to contribute to the development of a sustainable and innovative horticulture model in Romania!” This is the message from our faculty, to whom we send our congratulations and best wishes for the successful implementation of the project.
