International conference “Scientific Challenges and Future Perspectives for Sustainable Food Systems” at the Romanian Academy, with the participation of Prof. Dr. Dan C. Vodnar, President of the USAMV Cluj-Napoca Senate

Prof. Dr. Dan C. Vodnar, President of the Senate of USAMV Cluj-Napoca, lectured at the Romanian Academy on 15 October 2025, alongside Acad. Dumitru T. Murariu – Vice-President of the Romanian Academy, Acad. Doru Pamfil, President of the Agriculture and Forestry Section of the Academy, as well as renowned specialists from abroad, such as Prof. Antonio Meléndez , University of Seville, Spain, Prof. Magdalini Krokida, National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and Prof. Mladen Brnčić, University of Zagreb, Croatia.

The international conference “Scientific Challenges and Future Perspectives for Sustainable Food Systems” was initiated by Prof. Dr. Dan C. Vodnar, who is also a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy. A renowned specialist in the field of food science, Professor Vodnar stated that “Scientific research has a duty to provide concrete solutions for reducing waste, capitalising on resources and protecting public health.”

The conference aimed to provide a framework for scientific debate on the future of European food systems, the integration of fundamental research with industrial applicability, and the role of innovation in combating food insecurity and climate change.

The Romanian Academy also announced the full publication of the conference The Story of Sugar, also supported by Prof. Dr. Dan C. Vodnar, as part of the “Connections – Conferences of the Romanian Academy” project, which aims to fulfil one of the Academy’s main missions, namely to provide authentic scientific and cultural landmarks for the Romanian nation and to stimulate intellectual life.

The conferences are held by members of the Romanian Academy and researchers from its institutes, covering various areas of specialisation, either specific to certain fields or transdisciplinary in nature.
