The mission and strategy of USAMV Cluj-Napoca over the past decade have included, as main priorities, excellence in education and research, as well as national and international competitiveness, considered essential conditions for becoming an entrepreneurial university actively connected to the European Research Area and the socio-economic environment.

Five academic staff members from the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) Cluj-Napoca have been included in the Top World Ranking of Scientists 2%, according to the ranking published by Stanford University (California, USA), together with Elsevier Publishing and the scientific research organization SciTech Strategies.
The inclusion of these five academics in this category places the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca in 15th position nationally.
The Top World Ranking of Scientists 2% is a publicly available database that provides information on the impact of the most widely cited researchers in the world, either throughout their entire career or for a single year.

The research strategy of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca is based on the Management Plan of the USAMV Cluj-Napoca Rector for the 2024–2029 period, as well as on Government Decision no. 933 of July 20, 2022, approving the National Strategy for Research, Innovation, and Smart Specialization 2022–2027, and Government Decision no. 1,188 of September 29, 2022, approving the National Plan for Research, Development, and Innovation 2022–2027. It also takes into account the Council Recommendation of December 18, 2023, on a European framework for attracting and retaining research, innovation, and entrepreneurship talents in Europe (C/2023/1640), as well as the European Charter for Researchers included in Annex II to the Council Recommendation.

Scientific research activity at USAMV Cluj-Napoca is coordinated by the Council for Research, Development, and Innovation.
